モーレンハウエル(MOLLENHAUER)の歴史は1822年まで遡る。モーレンハウエル社は、楽器製作家であるヨハン・アンドレアス・モーレンハウエル(1798-1871)によって設立され、それ以降、何代も引き継がれ今日まで続いている。モーレンハウエルは多種の木管楽器を製作することで有名になり、その中にはチャカン（Csakan）と呼ばれる初期ロマン派時代に愛好されたリコーダーの一種も含まれている。コンラート・モーレンハウエル(1876-1943)と同社の職人たちは、リコーダーに特化して楽器を作り始めた。第二次世界大戦後、リコーダーのニューモデルの生産をスタートし、当初は出版社のベーレンライターを通じて、その後は独自のリコーダーブランドを立ち上げて、スクールモデルを中心にリコーダー製作を開始した。古楽復興運動が盛り上がってからは、モーレンハウエルはいくつかのピリオド楽器のコピーを作り始めた。中でも、キンゼカーやデンナーといったシリーズは現在も非常に人気が高く、モーガン・ワークショップやフリードリッヒ・フォン・ヒューネ、アドリアーナ・ブロイキンクのドリームリコーダーなど、著名なパートナーとの共同開発で設計したものもある。
1990年代以降、モダンリコーダーの開発の先駆けとして、「ヘルダー(Helder)」リコーダーや「モダン(Modern)」シリーズのソプラノとアルトを発売し、さらに革新的なアコースティックエレキリコーダーとして「エロディ(Elody)」も発表した。モーレンハウエルはヨーロッパのみならず世界のリコーダー文化の中心となり、数名のアーティストの協力を得て、様々なリコーダー講習会を開催し、自社の資料館を巡るツアーを編成。また、工房も公開している。
モーレンハウエル・チームは、リコーダー専門の季刊誌「ウィンドカナル(Windkanal)」を発行し、ウェブ上での活発な活動でフォローすることにより、今日のリコーダーネットワークとの交流を図っている。

The history of the company name MOLLENHAUER goes back to 1822. It began with the music instrument maker Johann Andreas Mollenhauer (1798–1871) and has continued through several generations to the present day. The company has been renown especially for the manufacture of various woodwind instruments, among these also the early romantic recorder named Csakan. Conrad Mollenhauer (1876–1943) and his employes concentrated their focus on the flute. After the end of World War II began the production of new models of recorders, first for the Baerenreiter publishing company, later under the own brand and especially in the field of school recorders. Since the development of the early music movement, Mollenhauer have launched several copies of period instruments, of which the Kynseker and Denner series have remained the most successful until today, also incorporating the designs of several other well known partners, like the Morgan Workshop, Friedrich von Huene and Dream recorders of Adriana Breukink. A leading role in the development of modern recorders since the 1990s is manifestied in the Helder recorders, the Modern Soprano and Alto recorders as well as the Elody, an innovative electro-acoustic recorder. Becoming a centre around the recorder culture not only in Europe, Mollenhauer collaborates with several artists and organizes various recorder courses and guided tours through their own museum and the open workshop. The Mollenhauer team communicates with the present day recorder network by publishing the quarterly recorder magazine Windkanal followed by lively activities in the world wide web.
